Activities, Events & Leisure in Zeeland

Horse-drawn carriage

Exploring and driving
offer you an opportunity to try out your driving skills in the countryside, driving a horse-drawn carriage along a specially constructed track. The course comprises various exercises, specially-constructed obstacles and a number of cones. You will, of course, be supervised by an instructor.

You can also book this as a day or weekend course, at the end of which you will be presented with a "Twistvliet Driving Certificate".

Tilt at the ring with horse and carriage
Another fun activity involving horses is tilt at the ring. This is a folklore tradition originating in Zeeland. The tradition started many years ago as a game at annual markets where farmers gathered together, and is still continued today. You can try this yourself at Twistvliet. The game requires you to tilt at the ring while sitting astride a horse, using a spear specially made for the purpose. At Twistvliet we ask you to try and tilt at the ring from a carriage. The average size of a ring is 38 mm and they get smaller as the game proceeds, making it increasingly difficult to tilt at them, which makes the game very exciting indeed.

Trip in a horse tram
You and your family or friends can also enjoy a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through the beautiful Walcheren countryside. The sound of the hooves adds to the rustic atmosphere. This is a sedate means of transport, allowing you to enjoy the scenic setting to the full. This activity can be enjoyed by everyone, young as well as old. Older people who have difficulty walking, or toddlers can share equally in the experience. This trip involves hiring a special horse tram for 20 - 40 seats.

For those enjoying a challenge

Driving a Land rover
Many people are attracted to off-road driving. This rugged adventure in the mud can become a reality at Twistvliet. Participants accompanied by a professional instructor drive an old land rover through a terrain especially constructed for the purpose. You may well end up with wet feet, while the land rover may get stuck …

Buggy fun
This is something entirely different. We have constructed a special terrain where you can drive our buggies. In addition, you are allowed on public roads everywhere, so that you can also explore a large part of Walcheren in this way. The latter does require a driving licence.

Zeeland’s environs also offers possibilities

Surfing on the beach
In favourable weather conditions it is possible to undertake any kind of surfing in the waves of the North Sea. In Domburg you can learn wave surfing, while there is a special company in Vrouwenpolder offering kite surfing and flying stunt kites. There are numerous other activities such as blow karting or kite karting, as well as the more usual windsurfing. These activities are not organised directly by our company, so will have to be booked in advance.

The English wood
We cross the English wood on foot while carrying out various different tasks which evoke and strengthen the team spirit.

Do not forget your survival kit

Constructing a catapult, bridge or raft
This is a challenging team task. The group is divided into different teams which each have to construct their own catapult. The different parts which ultimately go into building a catapult must be bought within a game structure. The winners are the team whose catapult shoots the furthest and/or the most accurately. This will test your coordination but also your aim and technical skills. This activity promotes cooperation within a team. The same activity may also take the form of constructing a bridge or raft. These will be built in a different location with sufficient water. These tasks will also promote your technical skills and the team spirit, and will be carried out under supervision as a game.

In the Manor House

Cooking workshop
Have you always wanted to cook on a real aga cooker? Now your wish can come true. In our manor house you get to work under supervision of a real aga chef, preparing various different dishes. Once all the food has been prepared, everybody sits down to the delicious fare prepared by yourselves.

Wine tasting

This is good fun. You will learn things about wine which you had not imagined it was possible to smell. For instance, you will learn on which type of wood the grapes have been dried, and from which region they originate.

Combined wine tasting & cooking workshop
It is, of course, possible to combine both.

Picnic trip by Bullet
On a special bike with a full picnic basket and equipped with a map you can tour the magnificent area of the “Manteling”. A visit to Terra Maris is recommended.
